Forget S. 2188 - There's a better CCW Reciprocity Bill Coming

Hat-tip to WyoThreeper for this update.

My previous post was regarding S. 2188, the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012. Forget about it. S. 2188 is sponsored by Senators Mark Begich (D-AK) and Joe Manchin (D-WV). and is a weak compromise bill which still requires a government permit for reciprocity, regardless of state law. In other words, it doesn't recognize CCW from states that do not require a permit; "Constitutional Carry" states. This bill has only one additional co-sponsor.

John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) will be introducing a bill shortly that will recognizes the right to carry concealed by residents of “Vermont-style” and “Constitutional Carry” states. They have fifteen additional co-sponsors!

These Constitutional Carry states include:
Vermont
Alaska
Wyoming
Arizona
Montana

Other states currently considering Constitutional Carry laws are:
Colorado
Georgia
Iowa
Kentucky
Maine
New Hampshire
Ohio
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota (on governor’s desk)
Virginia

If you think the NRA is behind Thune and Vitter's upcoming bill, you are mistaken. For the finer points on this, please visit David Codrea's Battle Raging post on his War on Guns blog.

Get ready to do your duty. When Thune and Vitter's bill is introduced early next week and given a number, we will need you, your friends, and your friend's friends to call their Senators and push for them to back this bill, and not to support S. 2188.

In the meantime, the GOA has a pre-written email form that you can send to your Senators here informing them of the two different bills and urging them to support the pro-gun legislation offered by Senators Thune and Vitter.

Do your duty as an American. Don't wait.
